Connecting Communities on the Court: Drug-Free World, NYPD and “Lead by Example Reverse the Trend” Team Up

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Americas Chapter sponsored the Red-Ribbon Cutting & Kick-Off Basketball Game in partnership with Lead By Example Reverse The Trend and the NYPD. This event marked the beginning of a series of games designed to unite the Bronx community with the NYPD.

News 12 The Bronx had covered the story, highlighting the positive impact these organizations were making by bringing together teens, youth, and local police through basketball. Lead By Example Reverse The Trend had focused on empowering young people by teaching them basketball skills and then teaming up with the NYPD to play against the police team, fostering both unity and enjoyment within the community.

Aside from sponsoring the event, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World had provided drug education and prevention materials through its Truth About Drugs campaign. The players received free drug education booklets, and the foundation conducted a drug-free pledge with students. Ultimately, they co-produced the basketball games and events, which took place at a New York City Department of Parks & Recreation basketball court in the Bronx.

Through sports and collaboration, this anti-violence basketball tournament successfully strengthened bonds between the community and the NYPD, paving the way for continued unity and trust.
